Making theatre and leading workshops with fairground life and Showpeople at it’s centre, championing Showmen artists!

The Showmen’s Theatre Company are currently working with The Showmen’s Mental Health Awareness Charity to create a new theatre play exploring the Showmen community’s relationship with mental health. The project is being funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In June 2023, Ava and Yana brought ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a walk-through fairground installation including performances of their debut piece ‘Big Wheel’, complete with a Hoopla, Strikers and free Candy Floss! Fair Scotland and a few other friendly faces worked together to make a wonderful educational event. This was made possible by the RCS's Equality Diversity and Inclusion Fund.

The Showmen’s Mental Health Awareness Charity first worked with The Showmen’s Theatre Company in early 2023. Together they created a heartwarming campaign video for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Fair Scotland is another partner with The Showmen’s Theatre Company, providing expert advice and assistance. They work together to create performances and experiences to promote the heritage and history of Showpeople.

Epic Assist and Ovacome recently worked with The Showmen’s Theatre Company to create a series of social media reels exploring the Showpeople’s relationship to health services, specifically regarding ovarian cancer awareness and support.

In November 2022, the newly founded Showmen’s Theatre Company performed at The Riverside Museum Christmas Fair commissioned by Fair Scotland. This consisted of interactive tours, bringing to life prominent historical figures from the Showmen community!

Going forward, The Showmen’s Theatre Company are excited to run theatre workshops with young people using drama to access empathy and combat prejudice.
